The 10th issue of the Actual Archaeology Magazine Anatolia, which is being published trimonthly in English, in Europe, USA and Japan, presents its readers one of the most important metropolises of the world; ISTANBUL.
Being among the most important cities of the world today, Istanbul, is a dynamic city, alive at all hours of the day and night. It is, at the same time, a growing city in a constant physical change. Unlike other world metropolises, Istanbul is a city wealthy in historical, cultural and archaeological assets. A recent metro project carried out in Istanbul, has revealed important evidences about the cultural, artistic and geographical changes underwent in the city in a period of 8500 years, changing the previously known history of the city. These recent finds made a worldwide sensation since Istanbul has an important role for the Christian world and a well-known worldwide fame. The Roman Emperor Constantine the Great accepted Christianity as the first official religion and declared Constantinople, named after him, as the first Christian capital. One of the most important cities of antiquity, Byzantion, became the capital of the new world with its strong city walls and strategic location controlling the straits.
